The windmill museum
interactive time travel for all the family

Four centuries of windmill history

No matter when you start or end your visit to Zaanse Schans, visiting the mill museum is equally inspiring. The interactive exhibition entices, intrigues and challenges you throughout. It is all about trade, culture and wealth. But also about hard labour, poverty and social development. One of the highlights is a 11-metre-wide panoramic painting showing all the windmills in eastern Zaandam around 1800. There is also a dazzling interactive model displaying 1,100 windmills in the Zaanstreek. Virtual guides offer their opinions as you travel through the museum, providing commentary and explanations.

You can enjoy temporary exhibitions and movies from the museum’s top floor, as well as a cup of coffee. It also offers a breathtaking view of the scenery. As you go, you will learn some interesting facts about the surrounding flora and fauna. You can enjoy a tasty cup of coffee while you do so.

Opening hours: daily 11 - 16 hour
